The brief – To create a pull up banner to promote Petrus’ services at a local event.
The concept – Petrus’ previous large format banners have been quite bland, very blue and rather formal. The idea was to add more colour and a more exciting branding that catches the eye of a passer by.
The outcome – There was initially a lot of content for the banner which caused issue, as designing for large format banners, you want the information to be easily digestible, with key information to draw a passer by to your stand. I worked with the client to help take out unnecessary information to accomplish this digestible content and make the most impact through the banner.
The design process – Something I struggled with was the amount of content on the banner, it made it bland and the text just became lost. To work through this I decided to go back to the client and reduce the copy. After this was done it was a lot easier to fit in the content in a bold and interesting way; making sure the text was legible and eye catching.
The issue with the first drafts is they were too plain, not utilising many colours or assets, just the diagonal crop to the image which almost every business has been using. To fix these first drafts I decided to add more colour and make use of different shapes, making it more modern and simple. The client fed back that with version 3 they wanted to use different images than the ones originally picked, which lead to a different design to encompass these in the best way.
