The Learning Foundry is a training provider targeting 16-24 year olds in the North West.

The brief – To create a brochure to market The Learning Foundry that would promote them as a training provider and partner to education providers and employers at the LCR Careers Hub Annual Conference. The conference brings together major employers and education providers from across the Liverpool City Region, to help support to young people.

The concept – The Learning Foundry’s branding for brochures and leaflets was back and fourth, only recently coming into consistency, so I utilised the opportunity to hone in the brand identity and elevate it one step further with their designs; finding new ways to use brand elements in a way the client would approve. Adding consistency but still pushing what the brand could be.

The outcome – The timeframe for this brief was limited, with two days to complete. The initial draft feedback was that the concept was that the content was too basic and boxy. This led me to try something new, which the client loved and wanted to utilise elements of in other parts of the business’ marketing material. Utilising the logo’s hexagon outline, to make more unique containers for content.

The design process – One of the challenges I overcame was trying to showcase 3 companies within one branded brochure. Grey, blue and purple as their primary colours can usually lead to quite a bland colour pallet. The use of heavy colour and harsh boxes lead to the brand identity of The Learning Foundry becoming clouded.

To overcome this, I decided to go simpler, utilising The Learning Foundry’s logo in different ways to show the brand, and using their branding when showcasing the other 2 companies as well, encompassing the hexagon throughout the design as a key element moving forward. Once I started utilising that I realised that simplicity was better, I needed to strip it back and go for a sleeker look and LESS BOXES!
